Koala
Found in the coastal areas of Australia's eastern and southern regions, Koala is easily recognisable by its stout, tailless body and large head with round, fluffy ears and large, spoon-shaped nose. Due to the limited nutritional and caloric content of their eucalypt diet, koalas are largely sedentary and sleep up to 20 hours a day.
Why They Matter
The quintessential Australian animal, also known globally and much loved, koalas are listed as a Vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
