Arctic Fox
The Arctic fox is a small fox native to the Arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere and common throughout the Arctic tundra biome. It is well adapted to living in cold environments, and is best known for its thick, warm fur, and large and very fluffy tail.
Why They Matter
The world population of Arctic foxes is not endangered, but two Arctic fox subpopulations in Russia and the Nordics are. The estimate of the Arctic fox population in all of Norway, Sweden, and Finland is fewer than 200 individuals.
